I've got to tell you how much I dug the Dumb Angel Gazette #4 . . . a very cool experience. Chidester's writing was great, the layout spectacular . . . awesome vibe in that work. I bought two! One to keep pristine . . . one to batter.

Dumb Angel #4 is really great . . . a keeper. The Beach Boys chronology is very interesting; I never knew that Al Jardine was a bass player, and a good one at that.

I just recently picked up the new issue of Dumb Angel Gazette, and I have to say—wow! Really nice work. It took you long enough, but boy is it good. The printing job is really good, too, and the full color pics are stunning. I can’t get over the Dave Myers photo with the "wave" guitar. I recently found out the story behind that guitar . . . it was made by a kid who worked for Mosrite in Bakersfield! He made two of them and a buddy of mine in Maryland just bought the other one. He said that Dave Myers still has the first one.

Mark Moore's article about Jan [in Dumb Angel No. 4] was so engrossing because I didn't know a lot of the details of his career, or some I forgot. But, also, reading it all together as a synopsis, Jan's career comes together in such an impressive way. Even though I didn't see all his recording activities, I was there enough to remember him as an intensely creative and proactive person, and Mark captured that with his article . . . Another thing reading Mark's article did is it made me see the difference between being inside a reality and then reading about that reality later. There's a lot you can't see or realize when you're inside a situation. You're just living it and not being impressed by it. But, when you get outside of it, sooner or later you gain a perspective on it and it appears differently.

Dumb Angel is utterly fantastic. I have been showing it around to a lot of artists, and it is
widely admired. Though it remains an underground magazine, it has a unique production quality
rarely seen . . . it has an exotica edge and a tantalizing mix of area research and lifestyle
reportage. You should be proud of a publication that will set standards. You have created a bit
of history here.

I think DAG #4: All Summer Long is the greatest. As a matter of fact, it has a definite place among my most important "go to" items in my "immediate access" reading/reference material. And, of course, I dug the Spector article. Keep up the good work. You can definitely be proud of yourself for archiving, preserving, presenting, and intelligently pontificating on a very special and important part of our American culture. Thank you!

Total gold! An Outré beachside must-have. Much more than a mere magazine, this thick journal is an absolute bible to the world of surf/trash culture.

"Aloha from Kona, where I went for a quick quality vacation with my son, before I have to depart on Monday into deepest Bavaria for work.
Just wanted to congratulate you on your excellent work with the magazine, my roommate Daniel has one. There is a German proverb that goes
along the lines of ‘What takes its time will finally come out great,’ and this is very true for your baby, a fine piece it is. I love the layout and all

"I was born and raised in Inglewood the same time the Surfaris and Jan & Dean rode the wild surf . . . so for me the Beach Boys
and surf music was the local music that, unless you were from the hood, it was our beach and our wave. Your current issue of
Dumb Angel has left the magazine idea behind and transformed itself into some kinda beautiful book that nails the sights and
sounds and smells of SoCal when it was all about Fun, Fun, Fun and not yet about Guns, Guns, Guns. This is the ultimate time
capsule for those outside our orbit to experience the 'when,' 'what,' 'why,' and 'how' of Where the Action Was . . . surf's up!"

Got the magazine. Very interesting at first glance. I grew up a surfer
you know and went to all the surf flicks at the high school auditoriums
and stuff. Actually have met Greg Noll as well as some other greats
because of "Murf the Surf" [Jack Murphy] who eventually became famous for a bigtime
jewel heist. He stole the Star of India sapphire from the [American Museum of Natural History in New York]. Now a minister in Florida. Gotta read the stuff now.

"Dumb Angel arrived a few days ago, and amidst a busy week Kimberly and
I took some time to peruse it a few nights ago . . . you made our jaws drop
just browsing through the subject matter and the absolutely gorgeous
art design. It’s not a magazine . . . more like a book to
treasure over and over again. I can't wait to sink my teeth into the
articles, especially the one about Brian Wilson and marimba music . . . I’ve
become quite enamored with Martin Denny and Arthur Lyman in the past
few years, and I’ve actually fancied doing an album featuring
exotica-type arrangements at some point, so just the thought of this
article really gets me going!"
