BRIAN CHIDESTER outside the Soap Plant in Los Angeles.
There will be a Dumb Angel No. 4 event at the Soap Plant / La Luz de Jesus Gallery on Hollywood Blvd., Friday, September 9 — 6:00-9:00 p.m.

Featuring the Boardwalkers playing live Surf instrumental music (the group boasts lead guitarist Dan Valenti, formerly with the Unclaimed). Also, Shag, John Van Hamersveld and Chris Green will be the featured artists (all three contributed artwork to the newest Dumb Angel volume), while Brian Chidester and Domenic Priore will sign copies of Dumb Angel No. 4: All Summer Long. Rare '50s and '60s surf films will also be played at the event.

Eden Ahbez - BBC Documentary
The Make-Out Room, September 15 — Stage and screen featuring a still from the DOMENIC PRIORE-produced, BRIAN CHIDESTER-directed EDEN AHBEZ / "Nature Boy" segment of The Secret Map of Hollywood — a documentary film that aired on the BBC in March 2005.
Dumb Angel event at the Make-Out Room in San Francisco: Tiki Art Two Exotica Extravaganza with Ape, Kitten on the Keys, the Lollies, hula dancing by the Wigglin' Wahinis, live tiki carving by Crazy Al, artists from the Tiki Art Two show with limited edition Tiki art for sale, author Domenic Priore signing Smile: The Story of Brian Wilson’s Lost Masterpiece and screening a rare ‘62 tiki film. Plus Brian Chidester's San Francisco premeire of Dumb Angel #4: All Summer Long — $10 • 7:30 p.m.

  • King of the Stomp (1963) — Dick Dale & his Del-Tones performing "Miserlou" live at Harmony Park Ballroom on March 22, 1963 in a promotional film shot by Watson-De Atley Productions under the supervison of Fred Rice for Capitol Records. (Rice was later involved with Mike Dormer's Shrimpenstein! for KHJ-Channel 9, with a 45 release on Capitol)

  • The first-ever filmed surfing footage, from 1906 in Waikiki — cinematographer, Robert K. Bonine, produced by Thomas Edison.

  • Screen debut of Brian Chidester's trailer for the forthcoming documentary Waikiki Beachboys.

  • U.S. debut of the Domenic Priore-produced / Brian Chidester-directed segment on "Nature Boy" Eden Ahbez, from the BBC documentary The Secret Map of Hollywood.

  • 1962's short film One Man's Challenge, featuring the first known footage of the Beach Boys performing "Surfin' Safari."

  • Beautiful Dreamer: The Story of Brian Wilson & Smile, by filmmaker David Leaf.

    Co-editors Brian Chidester and Domenic Priore will be on hand signing copies of Dumb Angel No. 4: All Summer Long, as well as Domenic's new Sanctuary book, Smile: The Story of Brian Wilson's Lost Masterpiece. Chidester and Priore will be narrating the proceedings and playing some rare Hawaiian music by the original Waikiki Beachboys.
